So yesterday I finished my Literacy lesson thinking to myself, how mature my class are, how encouraging it was that we could have a mature discussion about Shakespeare, his plays, his poetry, how even though they are only 9 and 10 it was amazing that we could read, understand and appreciate sonnets and ballads.....
I then left them to have a go at writing their own version of a sonnet or a ballad, obviously, I knew that this would be very difficult for them to do as they are so young, but I thought they could give it a go. "Can we write about anything?" I was asked, "Yes, of course," I say, thinking that the task itself was difficult enough, let alone giving them a subject matter as well.
So today I collect the poems in, and am generally amazed at how good the poems actually are! As I work my way down the pile of poems I discover that perhaps some of the boys have not quite grasped the general 'feeling' of Shakespeare and his writing....one child had written a poem entitled:
'The ballad of the UEFA Champions League Final (last year)'
A sonnet: 'Ronaldo'
Ok, I think to myself!! But even those poems didn't didn't quite prepare me for George's "sonnet"
I am not quite sure if this classes as a sonnet, it is certainly unlike any other sonnet I have read before...I shall leave you with the "sonnet" for you to read and enjoy and decide for yourself!!
Snot 'n' Bogies
Stick your finger up your nose
Snot pours down like a big fat hose
Crusty bogies, slimy snot
All comes down in a big fast shot
A clump of snot all down your clothes
Next thing you know it's down to your toes,
Meteorites of snot hit the ground
Alien goo climbs the mound
There's a bogie all fat and round
A swamp of snot all in your hands
Stretches like an elastic band
Well it cheered up my otherwise quite depressing week!!!

New Profession!
Since returning from the states, whilst writing many end of year reports I have been thinking.....Surely there must be a better way to work with children, as teaching involves far too much paper work!!!
Anyway, I have stumbled upon the idea that maybe God is calling me change my career! I have been thinking that I could replace Minnie Mouse and go and work full time in Disney World!!!
Let's face it, I am the same height, I could fit into the costume, I wouldn't have to keep my cool with the kids, as there would be a fixed smile on my face at all times, kids would actually be pleased to see me!!! And it would somewhat be like being a superstar geting to sign lots of autographs!!!!! What do you all think then?!!

A little post!!
I just thought that I'd type a few lines just to say that I'm still here!!
I feel busy at the moment, it seems that there are no minutes left in the day! And I seem so tired! Getting up is getting increasingly difficult! Particularly this morning when I pressed 'sleep' repeatedly for almost 30 minutes!!! Not good!! Which reminds me, Deb, how's the lent getting up going?
Work is hugely busy, I have lots of bits that need to be done this week as well and putting on a production next week, which is really not ready at all! Also I have lots of church meetings on this week, as well as a stressful Spurs replay tonight, and the cricket to keep up to date with!! I feel that my multi-tasking skills are being pushed to the limit......even though I am a girl and therefore usually have excellent multi-tasking skills!! ;)!!
Sending you all lots of love xxx

Wonderwall
No Mr EB, I have not given up blogging for lent!! It's just that when you work two and a half hours a day, like me, you have to fill the rest of your time counting down the days till your next holiday, and seeing as there are so many of them that doesn't leave me with much time!
Anyway, I thought that I'd tell you about the wonderwall in my class. The idea is that the children can post any question at all that they have and we try to answer them.
Questions on the wonderwall at the moment include:
- Do scientists know when the world is going to end and how?
- Who was the first to explore:
1. Drake?
2. Christopher Columbus
3. God
- When was gravity made and will it ever run out or stop?
- Why do we have nails?
- Does God exist (well the actual spelling was 'egsist'!)
- Who is the goodest person in your class?
- Why do the French have so many glass buildings?
So, any good answers form you? Particularly the nail one!! Why do we have nails?!!!!
Or what question would you post on the wonderwall?!!

What ya giving up?!!!!
So then, lent is almost upon us!
Just wondered if any of you are planning to give anything up?
My original plan was to challenge you to give up all your addictions - like curry, dms, marmite, etc, but then realised that this would involve me giving up haribo and sweets and I don't think that I have the willpower to see this through!!!
So I just wondered if any of you were feeling any more disciplined than me at this time or are you with me and taking the easier option?!
(Have just had a thought....maybe I could give up curry, champ, marmite AND drinking tea!!!!!!)

(PS - Getting up early again is NOT fun...)

....and to the ends of the earth!
Indeed, this is officially where I am, at the end of the earth!!!! (Well not really, it just feels like it!!) I am in Cornwall for a few days, visiting my family! Cornwall is a very strange place, in the summer, it is truly beautiful, the beaches here are gorgeous and there is no place that I'd rather be (although, I admit that that nice beach we went to in Brazil - would also do just as well!!) However, today it is very bleak here!! The rain is pouring down, I nearly got blew off the cliff whilst walking by the beach and the seas are huge!!
Anyway, thank you all my dear fellow bloggers for your prayers last week, I really appreciated all you messages and support. As the week panned out I kinda felt that things in my life should stay was they are for the moment at least. I did really feel a sense of God's help and presence through the week, which was quite long as against all the odds (i.e. snow!!) we did have school every day and even went ahead with parents evenings!! Thank you all for your prayers.
So back to the original point here I am in wet, cold, dull Cornwall - any suggestions of interesting activities that could be done in this place at this time?!!! (My thoughts thus far consist of shopping and eating haribo!!!)
Lots of love PJ!!! (as in pixie Ju - not ...'and duncan'!!!) xxx

The week ahead....
Well I am sitting here on a Sunday afternoon feeling a little bit daunted by the week ahead. Firstly, I have the usual end of half term parents evenings, which, unsurprisingly I never look forward to! There is also a lot of paper work at school which needs to be done! But also I have just discovered that I am going to have to make some quite important decisions over this next week which I have kind of known about for while but I just didn't realise that I was going to have to make the final decsions so soon. So just wanted to say that if any of you were able to just pray for me that God would give me wisdom and peace, I'd really really appreciate it!
Hope that you're all having a good weekend!

"Don't geddit"
Yes, in the often quoted phrase from my maths group I "don't geddit"
But today I have a problem from my Literacy group, this is unusual as I teach top literacy and therefore we don't normally struggle with the work. But today, they, and I are stuck on our work!!! So I thought I'd ask you all for some help!!
Can anyone solve this riddle?
What being goes on four legs in the morning,
Two legs in the afternoon,
And three legs in the evening?
Please help, it's bugging me!!

Calling all cricket fans
Owing to the lack of excitement in the recent cricket tour I was thinking that we may need a little cheering up to help us get through the forthcoming world cup! (As unless there is some miracle I am not thinking that the current form of the England team will keep us amused!!) I am therefore suggesting that we could do a fantasy team and wondered if anyone would be up for that? I haven't quite thought it through, didn't know if it would be best to do one through a paper, I don't really know how the points system would work out? But thought that it may be good? What do you think? Anyone be up for that and any ideas about the best way to go about it?!!

Two thoughts!
1. Am I in the wrong profession?!
OK, so I thought that the question to my class was simple enough after introducing our History topic: The Tudors:
Question: Who was Henry VII?
Answer: The first Tudor king was King Henry VII he was first to be chosen he was chose in 1485 he was married to Elizabeth and died in 1509. Henry lived in Lancatrain where as Elizabeth lived in New York.
Mmmmm.....I blame the teachers!!
2. Challenge
Read this the other day:
'When Dr Harry Ironside was a boy he heard about somebody who read the entire Bible every year. Impressed, he started reading and by age 14 he'd read the entire Bible 14 times! Consequently he was one of history's most influential preachers. ....People were amazed by his knowledge of the Scriptures and how he relayed them to others in simple everyday language....Just 15 minutes a day will take you through the entire Bible in less than a year...'
Anyway as I've never read the whole Bible all the way through I felt quite challenged to do this but, alas, I confess I still haven't even started to on my 15mins a day! (Not that I have any desire to be a preacher of course!!!)
Feeling a little distressed about my lack of even starting my plan, I read this today:
'When Dallas Cowboys' coach, Tom Landry, was asked how to build a winning team he said 'My job is to get men to do what they don't want to do, in order to achieve what they've always wanted to achieve.'..... Achieving greatness requires discipline - determined, deliberate, daily, definable actions with a clear goal in mind...'
So there we have it, I have to goal in mind just not quite there with the disclpline yet!! Anyone got any ideas to encourage me to get started?!!
Hope you're all having a good week,
Lots of love from the little one xx

Busy week!
There is just so much going on in the blog circles this week!! I have now come to the conclusion that my time was wisely spent when I was blogging before my meeting earlier this week!
We have discussions about marmite, pants, Christmas as well as being introduced to the orbs!! There's just so much to keep to keep up with!!
Seriously, I love hearing all your news. I love reading the posts and comments and knowing how you're all doing. It's cool too when people share their deeper concerns and thoughts, as it helps me to pray for you.
You're all such special people!!
Lots of love to you all, hoping that your day is a good one! xx

Happy New Year - And more confessions!!
Well firstly, let me wish all bloggers a Happy New Year! Hopefully it'll be filled with many happy blogging hours!!
And just to say that today I am sadly back at work! On the bright side we don't have any children in today, which I always feel makes my job easier,(!!) but dragging myself out of bed at an early hour was indeed a difficult task!
Anyway, I arrived at work at 8.30am only to find that we didn't have a staff meeting until 10am. So I have been in my classroom since arriving trying to find some inspiration to get on with jobs that need doing...alas, I have given up and I confess that I am now blogging instead!!! Tell me is that bad?!!!
Ok am off now to do some focused work!! (I can but try anyway!!)
Love to you all xx
